Why are there Christmas Songs Playing in November?

By Ivy Nowakowski

When you turn on the radio, you don’t want to be hearing Christmas songs for 4 weeks. You want to be hearing your normal music or thanksgiving music (If there is such a thing). In November, no one wants to be hearing Christmas songs. It is even worse if Thanksgiving isn’t over yet. My family waits to do anything Christmas until after Thanksgiving. The day after Thanksgiving, black Friday, we have tree day. This is the day we put up all our Christmas trees and decorations and the Christmas music can start playing. Lets take it one holiday at a time plus do you really want to be hearing Jingle Bells or Santa Baby for 3 weeks straight. I don’t remember us every celebrating New Years before Christmas ever came.

Thanksgiving should be getting more attention. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful. Maybe Thanksgiving should come after Christmas so we can be thankful for our gifts and have a holiday for it. Be thankful for the thing you have this Thanksgiving and really think about the purpose of the holiday. I guess I should be more thankful since I am not very thankful for the Christmas music playing too early this year. Be thankful for the Christmas tree you have, the turkey and mashed potatoes you eat, and the Thanksgiving pie your grandmother makes. It just some ideas for thing you can be thankful for so when someone asks you, you can have a long list. Then no one will ever ask you what you are thankful for again. I just ask that someone can tell the radio stations it is not Christmas time yet. Then I will be very thankful of that person and my Thanksgiving will be full of thanks.

Is Black Thursday the New Black Friday?

By Emily Efthimiades

Black Friday is a holiday shopping tradition where thousands of people skip a night of sleeping to get the best holiday sales. However, this year it may be changing. Black Friday could now be Black Thursday. Stores this year are opening on Thanksgiving Day and taking over the holiday. Not only the workers are aggravated about the stores choices to open are Friday, many of the customers are enraged also.

“Thanksgiving is for family, not shopping and pushing others around for the best deal.” One Walmart worker is quoted saying. Many employees from stores such as Target, Walmart, and Toys R Us, are angry that the stores are opening at 8 pm on Thursday night, instead of early Friday morning. Opening on Thursday cuts down on employees deserved time with their families by having to go into work while most are still cooling down after a large turkey dinner.

Many people also think that having stores opened early take away from the family oriented holiday. People who are against “Black Thursday” say that by opening the stores on Thursday their will be more of a rush to get limited items because there will be more people, leading to more Black Friday injuries, such as trampling, that have happened in the past. Others argue that having stores opened earlier gives them a better chance of purchasing more items that they wanted and a better chance of finding something that they wanted. They also argue that opening the stores earlier give them a chance to finish their shopping earlier so they can go back to bed and go back to bed and catch up on missed sleep.

Although most people are split on the topic of “Black Thursday” all can agree that the shopping that they do on that night is worth it when they see the faces of those who receive the gifts light up when they open up the gifts that they had went out on Black Friday to get.

Holiday Time

By Megan Krance

Christmas is right around the corner. The radio stations are already playing Christmas songs to get us in the mood. It’s even time for that Christmas shopping that we all hate! But don’t you ever wonder the true meaning of the holidays? I’ll give you a hint: it isn’t presents or food. For little kids, they believe in Santa Claus and think that Christmas time is a time for presents. That is the culture that we are brought up in. As I have grown older, I have learned the true meaning. Christmas isn’t about the presents; it is about giving instead of receiving. You are supposed to care about others. You are not supposed to be not obsessing over what your “big present” is this year. So this year when you open up all your new presents, give some of your old things to children in hospitals, or people who won’t have a “big present” that year. You could even give a little bit of extra change to the person who is ringing the bell outside all the stores. You don’t have to give something extravagant, but something little that can make a difference.
