Idol

American Idol by Morgan Osheka, 2013

If you’ve kept an eye on reality TV lately, you would already know that many reality shows are focused on singing competitions. From new additions like “The Voice” and “The X Factor”, millions of singers across the country are given more and more opportunities to showcase their singing talents and to become a singing sensation. But when the topic “singing competition” is mentioned, what is the one show that automatically comes to mind? American Idol. Even if you’ve never watched the show, everyone knows that American Idol can be considered the #1 singing competition known.  From producing music stars like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, David Cook, and Chris Daughtry, American Idol has given the music industry many artists that come with the whole package: stage presence, appeal to an audience, individuality, and an amazing voice.

This season of American Idol has been one that has definitely stood out amongst past seasons. With three famous judges (Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler) as well as one of the best TV hosts in the business, Ryan Seacrest, American Idol obviously sounds like an entertaining show right off the bat. But there’s more. This season, contestants have showcased their off-the-charts vocal ranges to perfection, their individual personalities through each song choice, and have made each elimination week a nail biter. Each contestant brings something different to the table each week. For starters, there are the three powerhouse female vocalists consisted of the blonde Brit teen, Hollie Cavanagh, the tiny and soulful Jessica Sanchez, and the country star, Skylar Laine. Each girl brings their own uniqueness to the show and each has something different to offer. I definitely think one of the girls will end up in the final two. Then, there are the two guys who are so different it’s crazy. There’s Joshua Ledet who performs every night with a smile on his face and a voice that reaches the sky. His vocals are out of this world and he always has fun with a performance. Lastly, there’s, Phillip Phillips who’s my personal favorite. Phillip, with a voice that’s unlike any other, likes to flip a song and turn it into one that reflects him as an artist. And it definitely doesn’t hurt when he plays his guitar too.

So who will the next American Idol be? Will it be a guy or a girl? If you haven’t watched this season of American Idol yet, tune in on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on FOX to watch the contestant’s live performances and the elimination night. There’s only a few weeks left until the finale, so start watching now!
