Grammy Winners

The Grammys by Ellen DiMartini, 2013

On Sunday, February 12 we had The 54th Annual Grammys AwardsThe Grammys recognizes the talents in the music industry.   With booming talent in the industry it is always difficult to predict the winners, but this year almost everyone knew who would take home some much-deserved awards.  Adele took home six awards that night, one of the most ever given out to one person in one year.  The Grammys were also dedicated to the late Whitney Houston.  In her honor, Jennifer Hudson sang a wonderful rendition of her song “I Will Always Love You.”  The performances were mostly good and enjoyable, with a few bizarre ones.  The awards were not as shocking this year, but there were still a few surprises of the night.  Overall the night was pleasant and as enjoyable as a three-hour award show can be.

Here is a list of a few of the lucky winners from the night.  For a full list of nominees and winners go to: http://www.grammy.com/nominees.

Catholic Schools Week

By Emma Oros, 2013

Every year, the last week of January is a very special week for Catholic Schools. Catholic School’s Week is a time to celebrate our faith through both academics and service. This week has brought us many special schedules and activities. Monday was Student Appreciation Day and all of the students dressed down and received Smiley cookies in homeroom. The Character Committee passed out smiley pins in the hallways to brighten everyone’s day as well. Tuesday was Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day and the adults dressed down and received a free lunch in the teacher’s room during periods 4-7. A “Thank You” video was shown in homeroom to thank the staff for all of their hard work. Wednesday was OLSH Appreciation Day and it was mass schedule for Academic Challenge. The Teachers beat the seniors in a tight final round. Thursday was Faith Appreciation Day and it was mass schedule again. Tomorrow is Community Appreciation Day and there will be a 40-Minute-End-of-Day schedule. There will be icebreaker activities in the gym and a treat to celebrate our Middle States Accreditation. Junior Laura Christoff said, “I always look forward to Catholic School’s Week!” We all love Catholic Schools Week!
